Taking It to the Streets – For Our Children

Yesterdays’ “March for Our Lives” all around the globe was an incredible testimony to the efforts of a few 15-16 year old brave and intelligent students who despite their grief and trauma were able to impel the rest of us to get on our feet and take it to the streets.  Gun violence is a pandemic in the USA and government officials need to wake up and realize that something more needs to be done.  I was moved to be part of something bigger than myself, and to be surrounded by so many who felt the same way.  As one sign said, “School’s Hard Enough…”

The message is clear, if your legislators have myopic gun rights groups in their back pockets, then prepare your resume, for next election cycle, you may be needing a new job. Bless all those who attended and for keeping these marches peaceful and meaningful.

We saw the counter-protesters being escorted out, and I could not help imagine what it would be like to have a 1:1 chat with one of them, to see what they were feeling.  One mind at a time, that’s all it takes to shed light on gun violence and see that responsible gun legislation is about safety, not taking away all your guns.

The most impactful signs I read yesterday were teenagers who simply wrote on their own foreheads, “Keep Me Safe.”  Blessed be.
