St. Clare – Contemporary of St. Francis of Assisi.  Clare (Chiara [KEE r ah] in Italian) of Assisi may have been a deeply humble woman, but she was no push over. In fact, she was a rather formidable woman.  She knew when to yield and when to hold her ground because she did everything rooted in faith. Clare was the first woman to write a Rule in the Church and have it approved, which was no so small feat in the 13th century.
